Just watched your GREAT performance at the Grand. Still hoping you will come to Toronto one day. We have a venue here called Hughs Room (www.hughroom.com) that would be perfect for your music. btw your Grand show was NOT on CBC nationwide but i found it on Rogers cable 131 CBRT (timeshifting channel) You may want to post that in case CBC ever reruns the show

May 28, 2010

Tonight I had my first opportunity to hear you perform live at the Mishah Ocean Foundation benefit at Spruce Grove and all I can can say is one word- STUNNING! Only every few years or so, will I hear a singer songwriter that will sound so completely fresh, with sensitive and captivating lyrics that will completely turn my head around. The last time that happened to me was with Ryan Bingham and tonight he has been knocked off that podium by you, Karla. Your 2 CDs that I bought tonight are now in my library playing in continuous rotation for probably forever!

Thanks for coming way the heck to Grande Prairie. We didn't know until the day before we left that you were playing in Edmonton the day before, but it was way worth the drive. My entire family enjoyed the show, and we'll look forward to another chance to watch you perform. And man, can that fellow play the guitar!

I just bought your new cd today & already I love it! I'm particularly loving Glory Bound. My 14 year old son has been going through cancer treatment and it speaks to me so clearly of his suffering and what I can only hope will come of it. I notice that the lyrics to that one aren't on the website - any chance you could post them?

Karla, I saw you years ago at the Nickelodeon folk club in Calgary when you just had demo discs out. Your songs made me cry then and they still do (but that's a good thing!). Best always, Lauren

I attended Shawn's memorial service last night and was not only amazed by the love and compassion of the friends and family but also absolutely loved your song. I recently lost my dad to cancer and the story you shared of how the song came about and the song itself touched me deeply. Thank you.

I heard your "blanket song" for the first time today on the radio. I stopped in my tracks, stunned to tears. One of my very favorite people in this world is going to pass on soon from pancreatic cancer and I can't be there to help comfort or say goodbye. Your lyrics perfectly described what I was feeling and the reasons I want to fly to England to see her. We have made a "Build a Bear" for her with a special recorded message of love inside and now your CD will go along with the bear to describe the love, peace and comfort we are sending. Thank you for saying what I could not find the words for. I'm eternally grateful.

Mariel

April 14, 2009

I saw you perform at a friend's apartment last fall for a benefit, and since then I haven't been able to stop listening to your CD. Your song "what else can I do?" has gotten me through a lot. My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer December 2007, and after a long 12 month battle, she passed away. Throughout my life, my mom has always told me that you know that the man your with really loves you when he brings you a blanket to keep you warm. While my mom was sick, that's all my dad felt like he could do for her. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for writing such a beautiful song. It will forever tie me to my mom and dad.

March 4, 2009

Hi, Karla. I was just watching a very old episode of "Party of Five." At the end of the episode, your song, "What Else Can I Do?" played in the background. I was so moved by it that I've been listening to it almost exclusively for a few days now. You have an exquisite voice that is coupled so nicely by the song's beautiful lyrics. I just bought your CD, The Embassy Sessions, and I can't wait to listen to your other songs.

Hopefully one day I can see a live performance.

February 14, 2009

Karla, I love your music! I plan to go to Bragg Creek in May. How about coming to Okotoks? We have a Performing Arts Centre now (old church building). Perhaps we could get you on next season's concert list? I can talk to the guy in charge (or my husband can!).
Best wishes and good luck on the tour. Debbie

Im in the UK and have for first time heard What Else can I do (blanket song). Can I say its absolutely amazing/awesome. Your voice and the melody brought me to tears (current situation).

The lyrics can't be any better and its almost etherial. Its in my head forever and I love it to bits. Thanks to youtube I can hear it everytime I come online.

Can't say another song except Sia's Breathe Me has affected me so much in such a short time. You have a wonderful gift there.

Blessing and peace: leese

Hi Karla, Well, that is the 2nd time you've made me cry. Listening to your song on utube, What else can I do, that was the 2nd. The 1st was when my girlfriend who is getting a divorce and I saw you live, Come into my kitchen, you sang Bye Bye Love. We both cried very hard. Crying is good, gets it out. Somehow it says it all. You have such a beautiful uncluttered voice, Thank-you. Hope to see you again.

I saw you at the Comox Valley Music Fest a couple of years ago. I attend every year and each year I wonder what my "festival moment" will be. You were it for me that year. Your song "What else can I do?" touched my heart and left me weeping of course. After your performance you gave me a big hug and knew just where that connection to your lyrics was coming from. It was a "blanket" hug from the heart and I thank you for that. I of course rushed right over to the CD tent to buy your cd and still love it. Are there plans for another cd soon? I hope that you will come back to the Comox Valley Music Fest in the future. If you ever have any concerts planned on Vancouver Island I hope that you can let me know.
I send you a big hug and hope to hear more of your musical journey.
Much Love

Just wanted to say how happy I am for you that your music career is going so well. I remember staying at your house when I was twelve and listening to you play your guitar and sing in the back yard. I've always thought you had a lot of talent. Aunty Pam gave me your five song demo a few years ago, I listen to it all the time. I always forget to ask her to bring me your CD when she comes out here. I'd love to come to a show next time you play on the island, or maybe we'll make it out to Alberta one day and can see you there. Take care.

Hi I love the blanket song. I saw you at the pioneer place a few years back myself and my three sisters really enjoyed the show. I also saw you at the coffee place in stony plain I was playing and singing there myself. I only went a couple of times but it was fun. Have you ever gone to fiddlers roost? I think they have open mike on Thursdays its a lot of fun and there are a lot of talented people there. I am moving back to B.C in mid April. There is a big out door show in Kaslo in August I think some very interesting places to play all around B.C maybe you could give the interior of B.C a try for all of the festivals in the summer you would have a lot of fun.

I just came from a funeral today, and your song "What else Can I Do" was played. It was so fitting and so caring and gentle, and one so many of us can relate to - a gorgeous song, and you sing it so beautifully! Teresa

September 1, 2007

When I heard your voice on tv one morning I thought you were the human embodiment of the sound of the loon in the wilderness. I couldn't wait for your cd to come out and of course I ran out and bought it, but I was dissappointed. There was just too much background clutter that drowned your voice and I thought what a shame. I'm hoping in your next cd your voice will stand almost solo and that's how I long to hear it like the first time accompanied by one instrument, your guitar. Simple is almost always the best. all the best, Teresa from Spruce Grove

August 31, 2007

Hi -

I was at the Open Air Engineered theatre in Calgary for your January 2007 concert. Your song "What Else Can I Do?" had a real impact on me. In December, 2006 both my mother and boyfriend passed away. I had just finished a beautiful quilt for my boyfriend's Christmas present but he did not get to see it. Instead, he was wrapped in my quilt for his funeral.

You are correct, at a time of tremendous grief, there are no words that can comfort us. With your song, I can see my boyfriend wrapped in his blanket keeping safe and warm. He loves his "blankies".

Thank you for the song that touched my heart so deeply.

Your lyricks have so inspired my new protagonist. If you're interested in coming to SC let me know. I'll try to get gigs for you( although, to be honest I've had no experience in do such a thing. August 6, 2007

Hi, Karla!
It's Susan, your "Nunsense" friend. I just wanted to let you know that your music continues to inspire and enlighten. I had the good fortune of seeing you open for Ruthie Foster in February. I was absolutely blown away by the song about the POW who changed his outlook from "Why Me?" to "Show Me!" That has been my mantra now, as I have recently been diagnosed with cancer. I refuse to ask "Why Me?!" I have kept asking God, "Show me!" I start chemo tomorrow and will be singing this song -- albeit from memory (when does this next album get released?!) Thank-you SO much for the clarity and inspiration!
Love you much!!
